ESP32-S31 Production Test Tools

Production testing verifies GPIO and flash connectivity, programs MAC addresses, and records test data before devices leave the factory. Espressif provides production test tools and fixtures to automate these steps on the assembly line.

Production Test Features

GPIO Continuity Test

Tests connectivity between the chip and external circuits. This helps detect open circuits, solder bridges, and cold joints after assembly before boards move to packaging.

MAC Address Programming

Assigns and writes unique MAC addresses during production. You can bind barcode labels to MAC addresses immediately after flashing and testing for later traceability.

Test Log Export

Generates JSON or CSV logs after each test run. The logs can integrate with MES or ERP systems and store PASS/FAIL results, test duration, and RF RSSI values.

Matter QR Code Generation

Batch-generates unique Matter provisioning QR codes and passcodes for Matter-enabled devices on the production line.

Fixture Recommendations

  1. Use pogo-pin fixtures: Do not hand-solder ribbon cables on the production line. Use pneumatic or manual press-down fixtures with spring probes on the ESP32-S31 flash and test pins.
  2. Add RF screening with ESP-BAT32: Use the ESP-BAT32 signal board as a low-cost golden unit to check RSSI and wireless quality before shipment. This is suitable for 100% go/no-go RF screening without a full RF tester on every line.
